Prior to Within, Drew was the founding CEO of critically acclaimed music streaming service Rdio (acquired by Pandora (NYSE: P)). Drew successfully launched Rdio in over 50 territories globally with a catalogue in excess of 30 million tracks and secured a groundbreaking strategic partnership with terrestrial radio group Cumulus Media (NASDAQ:CMLS) inclusive of $75M of equity investment. Additional deals included marketing partnerships with Live Nation (NYSE: LYV) and Red Bull, in-car integration with Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) exclusive for Europe, and bundled mobile offerings with Oi in Brazil (NYSE: OIBR), Telus in Canada (NYSE: TU) and Iusacell in Mexico.
Prior to Rdio, Drew was a Managing Director at Europlay Capital Advisors, a Los Angeles-based technology/media advisory firm and seed stage investor. While at Europlay, Drew was involved in financing, business development and M&A for various companies. Specific highlights include the sale of Skype to eBay for $2.6B (NASDAQ: EBAY); completion of a $45M financing round for Joost from various investors including Sequoia Capital, Index Ventures, CBS (NYSE: CBS), Viacom (NASDAQ: VIA) and Li Ka Shing; securing first of their kind streaming license arrangements for premium content from the CBS and Viacom networks for exploitation on the Joost platform; and securing licenses for legal streaming of music on the Kazaa platform (post-settlement of copyright litigation).
Prior to Europlay, Drew spent 13 years as an executive in the motion picture industry and worked on the development, production, financing and distribution of over 100 feature films including The Sixth Sense, Seabiscuit, Last of the Mohicans, Independence Day, Bruce Almighty and Fight Club.
Drew graduated with a BA from Wesleyan University, after which he earned a JD from Columbia Law School.
